May 2008
Soviet Cemetery

May 8th is Victory Day, when European nations celebrate the defeat of the Nazis in 1945. Because Prague was liberated by Soviet troops, there is a cemetery here full of Russian war dead. Despite the general disdain among Czechs for all things Soviet, the cemetery still bares the iconography of that era. I was even a little surprised to see so many fresh flowers adorning many of the head stones. Apparently someone of Russian heritage still wishes to pay their respects.
